The things we do for love (Day 28)

This morning Amy and I left the albuerge at 7:30am for the second hardest day of the Camino (after Day 1 crossing the Pyrenees), the big climb to O’ Cebrerio. I quickly realized my Camino will never be the same with Amy. Everything has changed… what time I leave, how fast I walk, how many stops I do. Do I feel judged eating 3 Snickers bars back to back? So essentially everything. I am distraught and feel out of balance walking with the 7 layer lady.

Below is Amy taking 3 (no joke) layers of clothing off in the first 10 minutes as we are leaving the town.

However, over the last month on the Camino, I heard new words for me, like compromise, like flexibility, acceptance of others, and I’m told those behaviors actually don’t hurt when utilized. I have been practicing them for the last six hours really hard. And in full honesty, they actually do hurt when you practice them. So I was misled! Oh, all the things we do for love!

While yesterday was rainy and it actually snowed on O’ Cebrerio, we were able to walk in beautiful partially cloudy weather and I climbed in a t-shirt. Just a day difference from snow to perfect weather. It is hard to describe what Amy was wearing as it changed on average every 16 minutes. Below is an early morning photo courtesy of our friend Reeve.

Today we started at 1300ft and climbed to over 4000 feet in the last 5k of our 27km walk. As expected, Mrs 7 layers had no problems. She is fit!

Tonight, we are staying right below the summit of O’Cebrerio in a tiny mountain village called La Laguna. I took the below photo when we were arriving. The town is in the middle of the image.

We have a very cold room with no heating which is giving 7 layers lady a lot of concern but luckily we found the only fireplace in the village for our late lunch where I snapped the below photo. All and all, I am very happy she is with me for this last part of the Camino.

The views once again didn’t disappoint. Today, we also shared The Way with some local beef. One of them looked rather pissy at me. I think, it was female comraderie over me making fun of Amy about her clothing. The cow gave me a stare.

Photos from the day.

Kms today: 27 kms
