Burgos (Day 12)

Last evening and dinner was special as it was our very last night as a cohort walking together with the group that started on April 1st from Saint Jean. I sat across Frank the comedian from LA and as usual was entertained by his jokes and stories.

Some of us (me included) will take a rest day in Burgos and some of us will continue to walk tomorrow. There were lots of photo ops happening and a big pilgrim dinner all together. I took a photo with Melanie (Team Kansas) as they will continue without a rest day and most likely will always be a day ahead of me moving forward.

Amy and I met Melanie on day 2. She was(is) a vet and built her own practice and sold it just before the Camino. She exemplifies everything I like about Americans. Friendly, up beat and will do anything type. She also has 3 kids like the Tezel’s. Hiking the Camino with her dad, uncle and the rest of us. I will miss all three of Team Kansas. They were special for me because they were the first friends we hiked with on the Camino with Amy. So when I see them I think of Amy every time.

This morning I left the albergue around 7am. It was one of the better ones with the exception of a coed shower. While there were curtains between stalls they were so tight that people had to dress outside in the common area and Europeans (men and women) are rather comfortable with nudity.

I shot one of my favorite photos this morning. If you zoom in you can see the cross behind the pilgrim. This was at the last major hill before arriving to Burgos.

Hiked most of the day with Joe from the train, Aussie mom (the alive one) of the Serial Killer (Clinton) and some parts alone.

After 22kms arrived to Burgos around noon. Burgos is a beautiful city with a famous cathedral and my hotel for next two days is right next to it. It is basic but super clean and after 3 nights of dorm rooms feels luxurious enough. There is some sense of accomplishment to have your own bathroom and no naked Europeans in it.
